William P. Melchionni, born October 19, 1944, was an American guard who played in the National Basketball Association and the American Basketball Association. He attended Bishop Eustace Prep in his hometown of Pennsauken Township, New Jersey, where his teams won two state championships. Melchionni went on to a collegiate career at Villanova University in the mid-1960s. As a junior in 1964–1965, he averaged 19.4 points for a 23–5 Wildcats squad that finished eighth in the national rankings. In his senior year he averaged 27.6 points as the team finished 18–11, winning nine of its last ten games and placing third in the 1966 National Invitation Tournament, where he was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. He scored 1,612 points during his career at Villanova and graduated in 1966 with a B.S. degree in economics.

Upon graduation, Melchionni was selected with the 19th overall pick in the second round of the draft. A three-time All-Star, he is one of only four players to win championships in both the NBA and the ABA.
