Bill Rariden

William Angel Rariden (February 4, 1888 – August 28, 1942) was a professional baseball catcher who played in the major leagues from 1909 to 1920. A light-hitting defensive specialist, he suited up for the Boston Braves, the Federal League's Indianapolis Hoosiers and Newark Pepper, the New York Giants, and the Cincinnati Reds. Playing in the Deadball Era, Rariden set the major league record for most assists by a catcher in a single season with 215 for Newark in 1915, then broke his own mark with 238 the following year. His best offensive season came with the Giants in 1917, when he batted .271 in 101 games.
