Dossier

William "Billy" Reay (August 21, 1918 – September 23, 2004) was a Canadian professional ice hockey center who played ten seasons in the NHL from 1943 to 1953, winning two Stanley Cups as a player. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he was signed by the Detroit Red Wings in 1939 before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens in 1945. After his playing career, Reay went on to coach in the NHL, spending the bulk of his tenure with the Chicago Black Hawks from 1963 to 1977, where he guided the team to three Stanley Cup Finals and became only the second coach in NHL history to win 500 games with a single franchise.
