Bill Sutherland

Dossier
William Fraser Sutherland (November 10, 1934 – April 9, 2017) was a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who spent much of his early career in the minor leagues with clubs including the Cincinnati Mohawks, Montreal Royals, Cleveland Barons, and Quebec Aces before making his NHL debut in 1963 with the Montreal Canadiens. The 1967 expansion gave him a full-time NHL opportunity when the Philadelphia Flyers acquired him from the Quebec Aces organization; Sutherland scored the first goal in Flyers franchise history that season, a 1–0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. He went on to play for five NHL teams between 1963 and 1972, then joined the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association from 1972 to 1974, and later briefly coached the Jets in 1980–81.
