Bill Werle

William George Werle (December 21, 1920 – November 27, 2010) was a left-handed pitcher from Oakland, California who spent six seasons in Major League Baseball. He appeared for the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, and Boston Red Sox between 1949 and 1954, throwing and batting left-handed at 182 pounds. Before reaching the majors, Werle pitched in the Pacific Coast League for the San Francisco Seals from 1943 to 1948 and returned there from 1955 to 1957. He carried the nickname Bugs, a reference to his longtime interest in entomology.
