Bill White

William Earl White (August 26, 1939 – May 21, 2017) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, regarded as one of the most notable defensive defencemen of the 1970s. He played his junior hockey with the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey Association and turned professional in 1960. Held back by the scarcity of jobs during the Original Six era of the National Hockey League, White spent seven seasons in the minor-league American Hockey League, mostly with the Springfield Indians. While with the Indians, he was instrumental in the players' strikes that led to the prominence of agent Alan Eagleson and the creation of the National Hockey League Players' Association.

The Los Angeles Kings acquired White's rights in the 1967 NHL expansion, and he was the leading scorer among the Kings' defencemen in both full seasons he played for them. During the 1970 season, White was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks, for whom he played the remainder of his career. He retired in 1976, having spent his NHL playing days with Los Angeles and Chicago from 1967 to 1976. White then coached Chicago during the 1976–77 season.
