William Dale Goodman (1926–1984) was an MLB infielder who played 16 seasons from 1947 through 1962 with the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, and Houston Colt .45s. Born in Concord, North Carolina, Goodman was one of the most versatile players of his era, appearing at every position except catcher and pitcher. He won the 1950 American League batting title with a .354 average and finished as AL MVP runner-up to Phil Rizzuto. A two-time All-Star, Goodman batted above .290 in eleven seasons and carried a career .376 on-base percentage. He was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1969 and the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2004.
