Billy Johnson

William Arthur Johnson, known as Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, played wide receiver and return specialist in the NFL from 1974 through 1988. A native of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, he earned his nickname in high school after dyeing his shoes on a dare. Johnson attended Division III Widener College in Pennsylvania, earning AP College Division All-American honors as a sophomore in 1972. The Houston Oilers selected him in the 15th round of the 1974 NFL Draft, where he joined as a kickoff returner. A 75th and 100th Anniversary All-Time NFL Team selection, Johnson was among the first players to perform elaborate end zone celebrations, including the "Funky Chicken" dance.
