Bob Allison

William Robert Allison (July 11, 1934 – April 9, 1995) was an American professional baseball outfielder who played 13 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Washington Senators and Minnesota Twins. Allison attended the University of Kansas for two years, where he starred as an outfielder on the baseball team and played fullback on the football team.

Over his major league career he hit 30 or more home runs three times and reached 20 or more in eight different seasons. Like many sluggers he struck out often, reaching the century mark in strikeouts in five seasons, but he also drew a good number of walks. Despite a mediocre .255 career batting average, he posted a lifetime on-base percentage of .358 and finished among the top 10 in on-base percentage in four seasons.

Allison was not an especially fast runner, but he was among the more feared base-runners of his era, hustling out doubles and triples. He led the league in triples in 1959 with nine, finished in the top 10 in doubles twice (1960 and 1964), and placed in the top 10 in triples four times (1959, 1962, 1967, and 1968). In the field he showed good range across all three outfield positions, finishing in the top five in range factor per nine innings five times.
