Dossier

Robert Awtry Locker (March 15, 1938 – August 15, 2022) was a right-handed relief pitcher who spent eleven seasons in Major League Baseball from 1965 to 1975, appearing for five different clubs without ever making a starting assignment. A sinker-ball specialist, Locker came to professional baseball after graduating from Iowa State University in 1960 with a degree in geology, having played both baseball and basketball at the collegiate level. He interrupted his minor-league career for military service before returning to win 16 games for Indianapolis in 1964, earning a spot in the Chicago White Sox bullpen the following spring at age 27.
