Bob Newton

Dossier
Robert Lee Newton (born August 16, 1949) played guard in the NFL from 1971 to 1981. After earning junior college honors at Cerritos College, Newton transferred to Nebraska, where coach Bob Devaney identified him as an All-American caliber lineman. He delivered on that assessment in 1970, earning consensus All-America and unanimous All-Big Eight honors while setting a conference record with four Lineman-of-the-Week nominations. His senior season he anchored an offensive line that helped the Huskers claim their first national championship before he entered professional football.
