Bob Nystrom

Robert Thore Nystrom, born October 10, 1952, is a Swedish–Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger who played his entire National Hockey League career with the New York Islanders from 1972 to 1986. Born Thore Robert Nyström in Stockholm, Sweden, he moved to Hinton, Alberta, as a four-year-old and played minor hockey there; he is included on the town's wall of fame. He starred for the BCJHL's Kamloops Rockets in 1969–70 before spending two seasons with the Calgary Centennials of the WCJHL. The Islanders claimed him 33rd overall in 1972.

Nystrom is best remembered for scoring the Stanley Cup-winning goal at the 7:11 mark of overtime in game six of the 1980 Stanley Cup Final, signaling the first of four straight championships for the Islanders. He was also among the last NHL players to compete without a helmet.

His son Eric played professional hockey for Norway's Stavanger Oilers, having previously played for the Nashville Predators, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, and Dallas Stars of the NHL.
