Dossier

Robert Arthur O'Farrell (1896–1988) was a Major League Baseball catcher and manager who played 21 seasons, primarily with the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Giants, with a brief stint with the Cincinnati Reds. Born in Waukegan, Illinois, he signed with the Cubs in 1915 after playing in a semi-professional exhibition game, developing his skills under former catcher Roger Bresnahan. He served as backup to Bill Killefer on the 1918 Cubs team that won the National League pennant before falling to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. He was regarded as one of the top defensive catchers of his era.
