Bob Rule

Bobby Frank Rule, an American professional basketball player who played center, was born June 29, 1944, in Riverside, California, and died September 5, 2019. He played YMCA basketball from the fifth through ninth grades before attending Riverside Polytechnic High School. As a 6-foot-5 senior in 1962, he was named All-Citrus Belt League first team at center, finishing second in league scoring behind future NBA player Jim Barnett of rival Ramona High School. Early in his college career, Rule played two years under Hall of Fame coach Jerry Tarkanian.

In the NBA, Rule played for the Seattle SuperSonics, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Milwaukee Bucks. He was selected to the first-team NBA All-Rookie team for the 1967–68 season. In his second and third seasons, from 1968 to 1970, he ranked among the top 10 in scoring average; nearly every other player in the top 10 over those two seasons was eventually inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. His career was derailed in the fourth game of his fourth season by an Achilles tendon injury, from which he never fully recovered.
