Dossier

Robert George Turner (January 31, 1934 – February 7, 2005) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League from 1955 to 1963. He spent the bulk of his career with the Montreal Canadiens before finishing with the Chicago Black Hawks.

Turner arrived in Montreal in time to join one of the most successful runs in league history. He won the Stanley Cup five consecutive times with the Canadiens, capturing championships in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960. Across those same five seasons he was named an NHL All-Star each year, earning All-Star recognition with Montreal in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960. After leaving the Canadiens he continued in the league with the Chicago Black Hawks, where he added a sixth All-Star selection in 1961.

His NHL career closed in 1963, having spanned eight seasons split between the two Original Six franchises. Turner died on February 7, 2005, at the age of 71.
