Bobby Joe Green

Bobby Joe Green (May 7, 1936 – May 28, 1993) was an American professional football player who spent fourteen seasons as a punter in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chicago Bears. Born in Vernon, Texas, in 1936, he attended College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he played for the College High Wildcats.

Green accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Florida in Gainesville, serving as a punter and halfback for coach Bob Woodruff's Gators in 1958 and 1959. As a senior in 1959, he kicked fifty-four punts for an average of 44.9 yards, which remains the Gators' single-season record. Woodruff ranked Green and Don Chandler as the program's best kickers of the 1950s. His 82-yard punt against the Georgia Bulldogs in 1958 stands as the longest punt by a Gator in the modern era. He was also a sprinter and high jumper on the Florida track and field team.

After college, Green punted for fourteen NFL seasons, dividing his professional career between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chicago Bears. He was later inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Gator Great." Green died on May 28, 1993, at the age of 57.
