Bobby Maples

Bobby Ray Maples, an American professional football center and linebacker, was born December 28, 1942, in Mount Vernon, Texas, the same town that produced Don Meredith. He played his college football at Baylor University alongside his older brother, Butch Maples. Both brothers went on to play professionally, Bobby in the American Football League and the National Football League.

Maples spent his early professional career in the AFL with the Houston Oilers, earning All-Star recognition in 1968. After his time in Houston, he continued in the NFL, playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos. He remained active in the league until his retirement in 1978.

Maples died of Hodgkin's disease in February 1991, on the sixteenth of the month, at the age of 48.
