Brad Park

Douglas Bradford Park, born July 6, 1948, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, and Detroit Red Wings. Born in Scarborough, Ontario, to Bob and Betty Park, he grew up with four siblings—Ron, Betty Anne, Lori, and Shelley. His father, a Scottish immigrant who served as a sergeant in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, later worked as a youth hockey referee and coach; he and his son would arrange the salt and pepper shakers on the kitchen table to analyze defensive play. As a teenager, Park worked as a laborer at a golf course in Thornhill.

Regarded as one of the best defencemen of his era, Park was named to an All-Star team seven times over the course of his career. His most productive seasons coincided with those of Bobby Orr, with whom he briefly played, and Denis Potvin, and as a result he never won the Norris Trophy awarded to the season's top defenceman. Park was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988. In 2017, he was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history.
