Brett Callighen

Brett Charles Callighen (born May 15, 1953) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey forward who played 213 games in the World Hockey Association with the New England Whalers and Edmonton Oilers before the Oilers joined the NHL for the 1979–80 season. Playing 160 NHL games, Callighen served as Wayne Gretzky's first regular left winger and assisted on Gretzky's first NHL goal on October 14, 1979. His career was cut short after a February 1980 stick injury left him legally blind in his left eye. He later worked as a hockey agent, co-founding Optima World Sports with former teammate Ron Chipperfield.
