Dossier

Barry Cullen was a Canadian centre who played ten seasons in the National Hockey League. Born on August 2, 1964, he played college hockey at Boston University, where he became the program's all-time leading scorer. After the Buffalo Sabres selected him in the 1986 NHL supplemental draft but declined to sign him, Cullen joined the Flint Spirits of the International Hockey League for the 1987–88 season, earning co-Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors after leading the league in scoring. He appeared in two NHL All-Star Games. In 1997 he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma; following an 18-month recovery he attempted a comeback in 1998 and received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. He later served briefly as an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning before entering the car dealership business.
