Bruce Gamble

Bruce George Gamble (May 24, 1938 – December 29, 1982) was a professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the National Hockey League between 1962 and 1972, with several stints in the minor leagues during that span.

Gamble began in junior hockey with the Port Arthur Bruins of the Thunder Bay Junior A Hockey League, playing three seasons between 1953 and 1955. In 1955–56 he backstopped the Port Arthur North Stars to a Memorial Cup berth, and reached the tournament again the following season with the Guelph Biltmores of the OHA, earning selection to the 1957 OHA first All-Star team. He made a third Memorial Cup appearance the next year with the Hull-Ottawa Canadiens.

He turned professional with the Vancouver Canucks of the WHL and appeared in two NHL games for the New York Rangers. His play drew interest from other clubs, and the Boston Bruins selected him in the 1959 intra-league draft. After a season with the Providence Reds of the AHL, Gamble became the Bruins' starting goaltender in 1960–61. Over the next four seasons he played mainly in the minors, with the Portland Buckaroos, Kingston Frontenacs, and Springfield Indians. He returned to the NHL in 1962 and continued his major-league career through 1972.
