Dossier

George Daniel "Buck" Weaver (1890–1956) was a shortstop and third baseman for the Chicago White Sox, beginning his major league career on April 11, 1912. He moved to third base in 1917 when Swede Risberg joined the club. A sure-handed fielder, Weaver was known as the only third baseman against whom Ty Cobb would not bunt, and he led the majors in sacrifice hits in both 1915 and 1916. He was part of the 1917 World Series championship team and batted .324 with 11 hits in the 1919 World Series, though he was subsequently banned from Major League Baseball for his connection to the Black Sox Scandal.
