Camilo Pascual

Camilo Alberto Pascual Lus (born January 20, 1934) is a Cuban former Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher whose career spanned 18 years, from 1954 to 1971. He pitched for the original modern Washington Senators franchise, which became the Minnesota Twins in 1961, as well as the second edition of the Washington Senators, the Cincinnati Reds, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Cleveland Indians. He was also known by the nicknames "Camile" and "Little Potato."

Born in Havana, Cuba, Pascual relied on his fastball and an overhand curveball, a pitch Ted Williams described as the "most feared curveball in the American League for 18 years" and one that has been rated among the top ten of all time. Over his career he compiled 174 wins, 2,167 strikeouts, and a 3.63 earned run average.

Pascual was elected to the American League All-Star team five times, in each year from 1959 through 1962 and again in 1964. In the second 1961 All-Star Game, he pitched three hitless innings and struck out four. He holds the opening day strikeout record, having fanned 15 batters in a 10–1 win over the Boston Red Sox in the 1960 season opener. His older brother, Carlos, was also a pitcher in Cuba and in the United States.
