Charley Taylor

Charles Robert Taylor (September 28, 1941 – February 19, 2022) was an American professional football player who played wide receiver for thirteen seasons with the Washington Redskins of the National Football League. Born in Grand Prairie, Texas, he was the second of seven children, raised by his mother, Myrtle, and his stepfather, James Stevenson. He began playing sports in junior high school and by the eighth grade was competing in football, baseball, basketball, and track. At Dalworth High School he played football and also competed in track and field, taking part in the high hurdles, discus, shot put, and long jump.

Taylor played college football for the Arizona State Sun Devils before Washington selected him in the first round of the 1964 NFL draft. Over his career with the Redskins, the team reached the playoffs five times, in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1976, and advanced to the Super Bowl once, appearing in Super Bowl VII following the 1972 season. He was named All-Pro six times and selected to the Pro Bowl eight times. Taylor was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1984. He died on February 19, 2022.
