Charlie Keller

Charles Ernest Keller (1916–1990) was a left fielder in Major League Baseball who spent the bulk of his career with the New York Yankees (1939–1943, 1945–1949, 1952) before finishing with the Detroit Tigers (1950–1951). A native of Middletown, Maryland, Keller attended the University of Maryland, earning a degree in agricultural economics in 1937. Known as "King Kong" for his prodigious power, he joined the Yankees in 1939 and anchored left field alongside Joe DiMaggio and Tommy Henrich. In his rookie season he batted .334 with 11 home runs and 83 RBI, then hit .438 with three home runs as the Yankees swept the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series.
