Chico Maki

Ronald Patrick "Chico" Maki (August 17, 1939 – August 24, 2015) was a Canadian ice hockey forward who spent his entire National Hockey League career with the Chicago Black Hawks, debuting in the 1960–61 season and retiring after the 1975–76 season. He played junior hockey with the St. Catharines Teepees, captaining the club to the 1960 Memorial Cup. In 1961 he won the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award as the American Hockey League's rookie of the year while playing for the Buffalo Bisons. That same year he dressed for games one and two of the 1961 Stanley Cup Final but did not play; Chicago nonetheless included his name on the Stanley Cup after winning the championship. Maki became known as a skilled two-way forward and was perennially among the league leaders in shorthanded goals. He appeared in three All-Star Games, in 1961, 1971 and 1972. He was the older brother of NHL player Wayne Maki, who died of brain cancer in 1974. Of Finnish descent, Maki also bought the Hillcrest Restaurant and Motel, which he later renamed Chico Maki's Inn.
