Dossier

Chuck Rayner was a Canadian goaltender who played nine seasons in the National Hockey League with the New York Americans and New York Rangers. Born in Sutherland, Saskatchewan in 1920, he developed his game with the Kenora Thistles, backstopping the club to the Abbott Cup and a Memorial Cup berth in 1940. After turning professional with the Americans' AHL affiliate in Springfield, he led the league in shutouts and goals-against average and earned Second All-Star Team honors. His career was interrupted by three years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. Rayner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
