Charles Thomas Schilling (October 25, 1937 – March 30, 2021) was a second baseman who played for the Boston Red Sox from 1961 to 1965. A product of Manhattan College, he broke into the majors in 1961 alongside fellow Long Islander Carl Yastrzemski. His arrival moved incumbent American League batting champion Pete Runnels off second base. Schilling appeared in 158 games as a rookie, batting .259 with 167 hits, 87 runs, and 62 RBI. He posted a league-best fielding percentage of .991, committing just eight errors in 846 chances. The Boston chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America named him the Red Sox Most Valuable Player for 1961.
