Dossier

Clarence Raymond Scott Jr. (born April 9, 1949) was an American professional football player who spent 13 seasons as a safety with the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League, from 1971 through 1983. Scott was raised in Decatur, Georgia, and attended Trinity High School, a former African-American school in Decatur. As a junior in 1965, he helped Trinity to a state title.

Scott played college football at Kansas State University, where he was named an All-American following the 1970 season. He entered the NFL as the first defensive back taken in the 1971 draft, selected 14th overall in the first round by the Browns. He proved a steady presence in the Cleveland secondary across his lengthy career. Scott earned Pro Bowl honors in 1973, a season in which he recorded five interceptions for 71 yards and one touchdown. He remained with the Browns through the 1983 season, completing all 13 of his professional years with the same franchise.
