Clay Carroll

Clay Carroll (born May 2, 1941, in Clanton, Alabama) was a right-handed relief pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1964 through 1978. He spent his most prominent years with the Cincinnati Reds, appearing in three division-winning seasons, one National League pennant, and the 1975 World Series championship. A two-time All-Star, Carroll led the National League in saves in 1972 and earned The Sporting News Fireman of the Year award that season. He also pitched for the Braves, White Sox, Cardinals, and Pirates. Carroll ranks third all-time among Reds pitchers in game appearances and was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1980.
