Cleon Jones

Cleon Joseph Jones, born June 24, 1942, is an American former professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball as a left fielder. He played most of his career for the New York Mets. Jones played football and baseball at Mobile County Training School in Mobile, Alabama, and at Alabama A&M University, where he scored 26 touchdowns in nine games for the Bulldogs. He also played baseball for the Grambling State Tigers of Grambling State University.

Jones signed with the New York Mets as an amateur free agent in 1962. After batting over .300 for both the Carolina League's Raleigh Mets and the New York–Penn League's Auburn Mets in 1963, he received a September call-up to the major league club without having played at the Double-A or Triple-A levels, collecting two hits in 15 at-bats for a .133 average. He spent all of 1964 with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, then made the Mets out of spring training in 1965 and appeared in the season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers before being demoted back to Buffalo.

In 1969, Jones caught the final out of the "Miracle Mets" World Series championship over the Baltimore Orioles.
