Corky Calhoun

David "Corky" Calhoun (born November 1, 1950) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the NBA from 1972 to 1980. Born in Waukegan, Illinois, Calhoun was the son of Ace Calhoun, a semipro basketball player. He attended Waukegan High School, where his team went undefeated in 1967 and he earned all-state honors. Playing within a deliberate, defense-oriented system in which his team averaged only 55 points per game, he averaged around 15 points per game as a senior and was named a high school All-American.

Calhoun attended the University of Pennsylvania on an academic scholarship, enrolling in the Wharton School of Finance and playing college basketball for the Penn Quakers under head coach Dick Harter. He was the first-round selection, fourth overall, of the Phoenix Suns in the 1972 NBA draft. Over an eight-year professional career he won an NBA championship as a member of the 1976–77 Portland Trail Blazers, where he played an important role with his defense on Julius Erving during the championship series.
