Cotton Davidson

Francis Marion "Cotton" Davidson (November 30, 1931 – December 23, 2022) was an American football quarterback and punter in the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL). He attended Baylor University and was selected in the first round of the 1954 NFL draft by the Baltimore Colts.

In addition to playing quarterback, Davidson served as a placekicker and punter. After the 1954 NFL season, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served two years, sitting out the 1955 and 1956 seasons. While in the military, he played quarterback for the Fort Bliss Falcons from 1955 to 1957. By the time he returned to the Colts for the 1957 season, Johnny Unitas had become the team's starting quarterback.

Davidson later joined the AFL, where he was an original Dallas Texan and the first starting quarterback in franchise history. He played for the Texans from 1960 to 1962 before moving to the Oakland Raiders, with whom he finished his career from 1962 to 1968. His professional service thus spanned the Colts (1954, 1957), Texans (1960–1962), and Raiders (1962–1968).

Davidson holds the record for the lowest career completion percentage in NFL history, at 43.9%, among players with a minimum of 1,500 passing attempts.
