Curtis McClinton

Curtis Realious McClinton Jr. (born June 25, 1939) is an American former professional football player. Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the son of Curtis Sr. and Mary Ella (McGee) McClinton, he moved with his family to Wichita in the early 1940s; his mother was a teacher and his father, Curtis McClinton Sr., became the first African American to serve in the Kansas Senate. At the University of Kansas, McClinton was named All-Big Eight multiple times in football and won three Big Eight championships in track as a hurdler.

McClinton played eight seasons in the American Football League for the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs. He was named the AFL's Rookie of the Year in 1962, was selected an AFL All-Star three times, and earned second-team All-AFL honors twice. With the franchise he won three AFL championships and one Super Bowl.

After his playing career, McClinton held executive positions at Amtrak and the Department of Commerce and served as a deputy mayor in Washington, D.C.
