Dale Mitchell

Dossier
Loren Dale Mitchell (August 23, 1921 – January 5, 1987) was a left fielder from Colony, Oklahoma, who played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1946 to 1956 with the Cleveland Indians and Brooklyn Dodgers. A left-handed hitter and thrower, Mitchell attended the University of Oklahoma after a contract dispute with Cleveland stalled his entry into professional ball, posting a career batting average of .467 and a senior-season mark of .507 — both still Sooner records. He served with the Army Air Force during World War II before finally joining the Indians organization and reaching the majors in 1946.
