Dan Issel

Daniel Paul Issel (born October 25, 1948) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. Born in Batavia, Illinois, the son of Robert and Elanor Issel, he attended Batavia High School, graduating in 1966 as an All-American under coach Don Vandersnick. He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats, earning All-American honors twice and compiling a school-record 25.7 points per game for his career, a mark that makes him the all-time leading scorer at the University of Kentucky.

A prolific scorer, Issel was named American Basketball Association Rookie of the Year in 1971. He went on to be a six-time ABA All-Star and a one-time NBA All-Star, and he ranks as the second-leading scorer in the history of the ABA. With the NBA's Denver Nuggets he became the franchise's second-leading scorer of all time. Upon his retirement from the NBA in 1985, only Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Julius Erving had scored more career points among professional basketball players. Issel was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.
