Dan Maloney

Daniel Charles "Snowshoes" Maloney (September 24, 1950 – November 19, 2018) was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger and coach in the National Hockey League. Drafted 14th overall by the Chicago Black Hawks in the 1970 NHL entry draft, he played two seasons in Chicago and appeared in the 1971 Stanley Cup Final. He later played for the Los Angeles Kings, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Toronto Maple Leafs, recording 192 goals, 259 assists, and 451 points in 737 games over his playing career.

Upon retiring, Maloney was offered an assistant coaching position with the Maple Leafs in 1982 and was promoted to head coach in 1984. He coached Toronto for two seasons, from 1984 to 1986, and then served three seasons as head coach of the Winnipeg Jets, from 1986 to 1989.

Maloney was known for having one of the hardest right-hand punches of his era and built a reputation as one of the NHL's most formidable fighters, often mentioned alongside the Philadelphia Flyers' Dave Schultz. The two met in a fight during a game in Los Angeles on January 4, 1975.
