Dossier

Danny Thomas Roundfield (May 26, 1953 – August 6, 2012) was an American professional basketball player who played power forward and center. Listed at 6'8", he graduated from Detroit's Chadsey Senior High School in 1971. At Central Michigan University he was twice named to the All-Mid-American Conference Team and was the 1975 MAC Player of the Year.

Roundfield was selected in the second round of the 1975 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers but opted instead to join the Indiana Pacers for the final season of the American Basketball Association. After an undistinguished rookie season, he was pressed into duty as starting power forward. Across 12 seasons in the ABA and NBA he played for the Indiana Pacers (1975–1978), Atlanta Hawks (1978–1984), Detroit Pistons (1984–1985), and Washington Bullets (1985–1987). He then moved to Turin, Italy, playing one season for Auxilium Torino.

Known as a strong rebounder and tenacious defender, Roundfield was named to five NBA All-Defensive teams and selected to three All-Star teams during his career. His nickname was Dr. Rounds.
