Danny Cater

Danny Anderson Cater (born February 25, 1940) was a professional baseball first baseman, third baseman, outfielder, and designated hitter who played twelve seasons in the major leagues. Signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1958, he went on to play for the Phillies, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City/Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and St. Louis Cardinals. A disciplined contact hitter who was difficult to strike out, Cater averaged over 500 plate appearances per season from 1965 to 1972. He finished second in the American League batting race in 1968 with a .290 average during the historically low-scoring "Year of the Pitcher."
