Danny Gare

Daniel Mirl Gare, born May 14, 1954, is a Canadian former National Hockey League right winger, ice hockey coach, and broadcaster who played professionally for thirteen years, most notably with the Buffalo Sabres. Gare played junior hockey for the WCJHL's Calgary Centennials from 1971 to 1974, recording 127 points in his final season with the team. The Sabres selected him with the 29th pick of the 1974 NHL amateur draft.

Wearing number 18, Gare scored his first career NHL goal just 18 seconds into his first regular season game, helping Buffalo defeat the Boston Bruins 9–5 on October 10, 1974. In his rookie season of 1974–75, he recorded 62 points in the regular season and 13 in the playoffs as the Sabres reached the Stanley Cup finals. The following year he scored 50 goals and 73 points, and he added 77 points in 1977–78. In 1979–80 he tied for the league lead with 56 goals and set a career high with 89 points, then followed with 85 points the next season. His goal-scoring prowess earned him a place at right wing on the power play.

Gare also played for the Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers during his career. A two-time All-Star, he twice scored 50 goals in a season for Buffalo.
