Danny Murphy

Danny Murphy, given name Daniel Francis (August 11, 1876 – November 22, 1955). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died in Jersey City, New Jersey. He stood 5 feet 9 inches and weighed 175 pounds. He batted and threw right-handed. He debuted in the majors in 1900 and played his last big-league season in 1915, a stretch of 16 seasons, primarily with the Philadelphia Athletics of the American League. His full professional career, including the minor leagues, ran from 1895 through 1918. His card presence in this catalog spans the E125 American Caramel die-cut issue of the early 1910s; the E254 Colgan's Chips chewing-gum issue produced from 1909 through 1912, a set notable for its broad coverage of major and minor league players; the E92 Croft's Candy issue of 1909-1910; the E92 Croft's Cocoa issue of 1909-1910; the E92 Dockman & Sons Gum issue of 1909-1910; the E92 Nadja Caramels issue of 1909-1910; and the T204 Ramly tobacco issue of 1909, distributed by the Mentor Cigarette Company and recognizable by its ornate gold-bordered frames. He is interred at St. Mary Cemetery in Norwich, Connecticut.
