Dossier

David Richard Hudson, a Canadian professional ice hockey player born December 28, 1949, played 409 games in the National Hockey League during the 1970s. He skated for the University of North Dakota before turning professional in 1970. Selected by the Chicago Black Hawks in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft, Hudson spent two years in their system before being claimed by the expansion New York Islanders, with whom he made his NHL debut in 1972. He took the opening faceoff in the first game in Islanders history, and was the last Islander to wear number 5 before Denis Potvin.

Known as "Hud," he was again selected by an expansion club when the Kansas City Scouts claimed him in 1974. He played two seasons in Kansas City and two more after the franchise relocated to become the Colorado Rockies, retiring in 1978. Across his NHL career he recorded 59 goals and 124 assists for 183 points.

Following his playing days, Hudson settled in Texas, where he founded a commercial printing business, Colormark.
