Dossier

Howard Michael Johnson, nicknamed "HoJo," born November 29, 1960, in Clearwater, Florida, was an American professional baseball third baseman, shortstop, and outfielder who played in Major League Baseball from 1982 to 1995.

Johnson made his debut with the Detroit Tigers in 1982 and was part of the 1984 World Series champions. The Tigers traded him to the New York Mets after that season, and he won a second World Series title in 1986. He was a two-time All-Star with the Mets, selected in 1989 and 1991, and led the National League in home runs and runs batted in in 1991. He played for the Mets through the 1993 season before finishing his career with the Colorado Rockies in 1994 and the Chicago Cubs in 1995. He later coached in MLB for the Mets and the Seattle Mariners.

Johnson ranks third on the Mets' all-time lists for home runs, runs batted in, doubles, and stolen bases. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
