Dave Kingman

David Arthur Kingman, nicknamed "Kong," "King Kong," and "Sky King," is an American former Major League Baseball player who was born December 21, 1948, in Pendleton, Oregon. Over 16 seasons he played left field, first base, third base, and designated hitter, and was named an All-Star three times. He finished his career with 442 home runs and 1,210 runs batted in.

Standing 6' 6", Kingman was a power hitter who twice led the National League in home runs. He was known for the length of his home runs, including one measured at over 530 feet, and he averaged a home run every 15.11 at bats, tied for 19th best all-time. He struck out frequently and posted a low batting average and on-base percentage; his 1,816 career strikeouts ranked fourth-highest in MLB history at the time of his retirement.

Kingman finished in the top 25 of National League Most Valuable Player voting four times, in 1972, 1975, 1976, and 1979, and once in American League MVP voting, in 1984. Upon his retirement, only eighteen players had hit more career home runs, and his 16 grand slams left him tied for fourth on the all-time list alongside Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.
