David Gene Parker (June 9, 1951 – June 28, 2025), nicknamed "the Cobra," played right field in Major League Baseball from 1973 to 1991. A seven-time All-Star, Parker won two National League batting titles and was named NL Most Valuable Player in 1978. He earned World Series rings with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979 and the Oakland Athletics in 1989. In January 1979 he became the first American athlete to average $1 million per year on a five-year contract. His career totals include 2,712 hits, 339 home runs, 1,493 RBI, and a .290 batting average, along with three consecutive Gold Glove Awards. Parker was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025.
