David Ray Roberts, born May 31, 1972, in Naha, Okinawa, is an outfielder who played for five MLB teams over a ten-year career. The son of an African American father and Japanese mother, Roberts is best remembered as a player for a stolen base during Game 4 of the 2004 American League Championship Series while with the Boston Red Sox — a pivotal moment in Boston's extended postseason run that culminated in a World Series championship. After retiring, he joined the San Diego Padres coaching staff before being named manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016.
