Dave Thelen

Dave Thelen (born September 2, 1936) was a Canadian Football League running back who spent nine seasons beginning in 1958 with the Ottawa Rough Riders before finishing with the Toronto Argonauts. Originally drafted by both the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, he chose the CFL. Over his career he rushed for 8,463 yards on 1,530 carries and scored 47 touchdowns. He led the CFL in rushing in 1960 with 1,407 yards at 5.7 yards per carry, including a 209-yard, 33-carry performance against Toronto, and topped 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons (1959–1961). He was part of Ottawa's 1960 Grey Cup championship team. Thelen was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
