Dossier

David Allen Lee was an American professional football player who served as a punter for the Baltimore Colts of the National Football League from 1966 to 1978. Born November 8, 1943, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Roy and Hazel Lee, he was raised in Minden, Louisiana, with three other siblings in an athletic family; both of his parents had played high school basketball. At Minden High School, Lee was a Louisiana All-State selection in basketball, baseball, and as a punter, and also competed in track and field. His younger brother, Danny, later played football at then Northeast Louisiana.

Lee played college football for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, joining as a punter during an era when specialized kickers were uncommon. Head coach Joe Aillet helped hone his kicking style, and Lee used his long legs to become a formidable punter. In his 1961 freshman season, he recorded 49 punts for 1,963 yards, a 40.6-yard average.

Lee spent his entire NFL career with the Baltimore Colts, punting from 1966 through 1978. He was a member of the Colts teams that won the 1968 NFL Championship and Super Bowl V. He died on May 11, 2026.
