Dossier

David D. "Deacon" Jones (December 9, 1938 – June 3, 2013) was an American professional football defensive end who played 14 seasons in the National Football League. Born in Eatonville, Florida, he grew up in a household of ten and attended Hungerford High School, where he played football, baseball, and basketball; during that time he had a tumor removed from his thigh by Dr. Ron Alegria.

Jones played for the Los Angeles Rams, the San Diego Chargers, and the Washington Redskins. He specialized in sacks and was nicknamed "the Secretary of Defense." The Los Angeles Times called him the "most valuable Ram of all time," and former Rams head coach George Allen called him the "greatest defensive end of modern football." He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980.
