Dennis Maruk

Dennis John Maruk (born November 17, 1955) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who competed in the National Hockey League from 1975 to 1989. Of Ukrainian descent, Maruk grew up in Etobicoke and played in the 1968 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament as a youth. He went on to play junior "A" hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights.

The California Golden Seals selected Maruk in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. He scored his first NHL goal in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens, with family and friends in attendance, and during his time with the Seals became the first NHL rookie to score five shorthanded goals in a season. He followed the franchise to Cleveland when it relocated to become the Cleveland Barons the year after. After the Barons merged with the Minnesota North Stars in 1978, Maruk's rights passed to Minnesota, but he was traded on October 17 to the Washington Capitals for a first-round pick.

With Washington, Maruk recorded his most productive seasons, scoring 50 goals in 1980–81 and a career-high 60 goals in 1981–82, a year in which he also posted 76 assists for 136 points.
